Many marriage therapists tell their clients to listen reflectively to their spouses when they are argue.  Most people can’t do this.  When wounded, we resort to the flight or flight instincts and either defend ourselves or attack verbally the other person with whom we are fighting.  Sometimes our wounds from old verbal battles are so deep, that we reflexively react to everyone the same way, not trusting that some good can come out of a difficult interaction.  This class gives participants the tools to listen reflectively for facts, wounds, feelings, heart-held values.  Once we learn to listen compassionately, we can take this knowledge to help us know how to address conflict in a way that disarms nicely the person who is fighting with us.  This heals wounds in relationships, and if the wounds are too deep to heal, it helps us come into our power as we learn the real meaning of “turn the other cheek.”  We are strongest when we are compassionate.

Listening to your child’s anger and responding with your heart can resolve tantrums without discipline. Listening also strengthens the relationship between child and parent, but it takes practice and support to replace old habits of lecturing with new habits of listening. This class gives parents the tools to listen to their children and to know how to respond to connect with their children heart to heart to resolve family conflict.
